Justin Reid is just getting started for the Houston Texans

With the addition of Mathieu in the offseason and the positional move of Kareem Jackson from cornerback to safety, there wasn’t a need for Reid to get the start right away. Mathieu and Jackson formed a terrific tandem and Reid was the perfect compliment off the bench.

He still played a decent amount but he wasn’t drawing starts and he played quite a bit and made an impact. It was, however, limited because he wasn’t out there from the word ‘go.’ He played a lot of special teams as well but he really made an impression when he was out there on defense and began to earn more and more playing time.

The way he was playing coupled with the massive amounts of injuries the team had in the secondary enabled him to take on a larger role with the team. Jackson moved back to corner and Reid began to start games.

Reid has gotten better every single week, especially since he’s become a starter the past four weeks. It’s very apparent that the game has really begun to slow down for him as he adapts further to the NFL and continues to pile up the reps.

As he continues to draw starts and get more and more playing time at the free safety position, the better he is going to get. Reid is just now hitting his stride and the rest of the NFL needs to be put on watch because the best is yet to come.
