Houston Astros Rumors: 3 offseason moves that could destroy the future
By T.A. Mock
The Houston Astros are set to make moves this offseason. Here are three moves they need to avoid because they could absolutely destroy the future of the team.
The Houston Astros have turned themselves into one of the powerhouses and dynasties in the MLB. They have done so by being frugal and building up an elite farm system that is now paying dividends. That took a long time and was painful for the fanbase but the payoff has been pure bliss.
Over the past couple of offseasons, that mentality began to change as the ownership and front office realized the potential of this team and wanted to capitalize on it. All of this started with the acquisitions of guys like Brian McCann and Josh Reddick two years ago and has built since then.
The Astros made a huge, blockbuster deal to acquire Justin Verlander two Augusts ago that really put the team on the map as a player. After that, the team continued to deny getting complacent and kept building on the core that they had already put together.
Since then, the team has gone out and added stud players like Roberto Osuna, Ryan Pressly, and Gerrit Cole. Needless to say, the Houston Astros aren’t afraid to make big moves any more to improve this team. However, they still need to exhibit a good amount of caution when it comes to making moves this offseason.
There are plenty of future extensions that need to be considered when seeking improvements in the future. George Springer, Carlos Correa, and Alex Bregman have potential extensions coming up in consecutive years. Verlander and Cole are both set to be free agents next year as well.
Beyond that, the Astros have a plethora high-level prospects that are on the verge of breaking out onto the MLB roster like Kyle Tucker, Forrest Whitley, and Yordan Alvarez plus a lot of second tier guys that could make an impact.
That being said, doing the following three teams could potentially decimate the future of the organization if the team decides to go big this offseason. Let’s dive in.
