CJ Fiedorowicz was the present and future at the tight end position heading into the 2017 season. Unfortunately, his concussions began to multiply and he went out for the entire season. After the season, he announced his retirement which is an extremely wise move.

So, heading into the 2018 season, the Houston Texans could field Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson at tight end. So, it was obvious that the position needed revamping. The team didn’t target any free agents so it was obvious the reinforcements were going to come in the draft.

The Texans then added Jordan Akins in the sixth round of the 2018 draft and targeted the position again in the sixth round when they selected Jordan Thomas. Akins is a very solid all-around tight end but hasn’t quite made the impact the team was hoping.

Thomas, on the other hand, has exceeded expectations. He is a massive target for Deshaun Watson, standing at 6’6″ and weighing 280 lbs. Aside from a couple one-off long catches in the first few weeks of the season, he wasn’t making an impact. However, the past few weeks the Texans have seemed to realize his value.

In the last two weeks, Thomas has appeared to solve the Texans red zone woes. He has nabbed three touchdown catches in the red zone to pair with a couple other catches. After a week off, the Texans are sure to implement more and more plays in the red zone for the mismatch nightmare also known as Jordan Thomas. Be prepared to hear Thomas’ name a lot in the second half of the season.

dark. Next. Three questions the Texans need to answer in the bye week

The Houston Texans are set to make a major run in the second half of the season. It’s not impossible to see the team winning out and finishing the regular season on a 13 game winning streak, finishing the season 13-3. That isn’t super probable but a double digit win season is extremely likely at this point. Colvin, Foreman, and Thomas are primed to help this happen.
