Aaron Colvin, CB

Aaron Colvin was one of the biggest names the Houston Texans brought in this offseason, and maybe the past few years. He was also on one of the biggest contracts the team has issued to a free agent as well.

Colvin had four really good years with Jacksonville prior to signing with the Texans this offseason. He played both inside and outside for the Jaguars and it wasn’t clear whether or not the Texans saw him as an inside guy or an outside guy. But after the first four games of the season, he played 75% of his snaps in the slot.

Colvin got injured in that fourth game against the Colts and has been recovering from this ankle injury ever since. After Colvin went down, the Texans moved Kareem Jackson back to corner and have been starting rookie Justin Reid at safety. Both guys have thrived in their roles and will likely stay there even if Colvin comes back. Jackson and Colvin are both primarily slot guys so it’ll be interesting to see the rotation when they’re both on the field.

Regardless of how the snaps shape out, Colvin is primed to make a major impact in the second half of the season. With the dearth of players, the Texans have played a bunch of players that probably shouldn’t be starting on an NFL defense, let alone one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Getting Colvin back will bolster this secondary and elevate this defense to new heights in the second half. This team is full of steam and is plowing forward through their schedule and getting healthy on defense makes this team even scarier.

Colvin’s first two games of the season were excellent. He more than held his own on the field at a time when the rest of the secondary, aside from Jackson was struggling. Now that the secondary is peaking, Colvin will help make the Texans pass coverage excellent.
