Reason #3: The trait that has him stand out among the rest

Not only has Jackson’s play been outstanding but the trait that he possesses ensures that he stands out among the rest in terms of other defensive backs.  It’s not rocket science but Jackson is quite good at being, wait for it…

VERSATILE!

The key component to ensure that your audition is successful to being a member of the Houston Texans is one’s versatility.  We’ve heard Bill O’Brien drill that message home vigorously and for the most part, having that trait has worked for the success of the team during his tenure.

The problem with last season was simply they didn’t have enough depth to have some type of continuity when critical injuries took out a lot of the Houston Texans star contributors.

The franchise used a record 77 players on their roster last season just to keep their engine barely running, sputtering themselves to a 4-12 finish in 2017.

When it was announced that Jackson was moving to safety to start the 2018 season, we knew it

More from House of Houston

was coming as it’s a natural transition for aging CB’s as Jackson just turned 30-years-old this past April.

His value his skyrocketed and that will go a long way when he gets ready to hit the free agency market after this season.

But none of us expected this — his effectiveness at cornerback because of various injuries to Aaron Colvin and Kayvon Webster goes to show that he’s still got it and working hard to prove the naysayers wrong.

As any good teammate would do, he fell on his sword during this past season’s training camp when it was announced that he was moving to safety.  But in his heart, I knew he felt that he could emphatically play the position as he had in year’s past and he’s out on a mission to communicate that specific bullet point.

Whether the Houston Texans decide to re-sign him or not, Jackson is having a hell of a season and it has been truly a pleasure to watch.

All of what has transpired will get him to his first Pro Bowl.

Jackson has 51 tackles — 41 assisted — along with 10 passes defended, four tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery through nine starts this season.
