Carlos Correa, SS

Carlos Correa is one of the most tantalizing players on the Houston Astros, heck, he may be one of the most tantalizing players in the entire league. He is this way because he possesses some of the best physical traits of any player in the entire league.

He has incredible raw power, he has good speed, he has a cannon attached to his body at the shoulder. He’s just incredibly gifted, perhaps the most physically gifted player on the Astros. Yet, he has been unable to fully unlock it all at one time through four years in the big leagues.

In 2015, he had an incredible rookie campaign, taking the league by storm in less than 100 games. He wound up winning the rookie of the year that season and the hype train was full of steam. He was immediately touted as an MVP candidate in 2016 and that conversation has continued ever since.

So, maybe part of the disappointment is to be blamed on the immense expectations that have been placed on such a young player as Correa has yet to celebrate his 25th birthday. He finally seemed to be putting it all together last season when he hit above .300 for the first time in his career while also blasting 24 home runs in just 109 games. So, coming into the 2018 season the hype finally appeared to be met and he was destined to truly take off and break out.

However, Correa spent a lot of the year banged up or on the disabled list. When he was playing, he just never looked right and struggled mightily. A healthy Correa would have gone a long, long way to the Astros repeat hopes. If he can get right this offseason and recapture the magic he built in 2017, this offense could reach new heights.

These members of the Houston Astros struggled this year and disappointed. However, they’re all under contract for next year and hopefully will be able to put what made them disappointing this year behind them, they could help the Astros reach the World Series once again.
