Houston Texans: Three options to solve the left tackle conundrum
By T.A. Mock
Jason Spriggs, Green Bay Packers
Jason Spriggs may be my favorite option, the question is would the Packers be willing to deal him? They drafted Spriggs in the second round of the 2016 draft, in fact, they actually traded up to get him.
Spriggs is massive and extremely athletic, the exact profile of what any team should want in a tackle. He is 6’7″ and weighs about 310 pounds. He has great length and big hands which helped him earn first-team All-America as a senior at Indiana. He also ran a 4.94 forty, 7.57 three-cone drill, had a 35 inch vertical and a 115-inch broad jump.

He is excellent in pass protection and consistently blocks through the whistle. However, he hasn’t had much of a chance to showcase his talent at the NFL level. He’s seen fewer than 600 total snaps in his career, though the vast majority of his 2017 was spent on the IR.
The Packers are pretty old along the offensive line but they’re still very, very solid for the most part in keeping Aaron Rodgers upright. They haven’t really gotten to see what they have in Spriggs yet and are running out of opportunities as he is a free agency after next season.
The Packers could be convinced to get a return on Spriggs before it’s too late. It may take some work but the Packers may be swayed by a third round pick. Spriggs has a lot to prove still but his potential is enormous, the Texans should definitely kick the tires here.
All three of these options could definitely be better than Davenport or Rankin. Of the three, I like Spriggs, then Humphries, then Coleman. Regardless, the Houston Texans need to do something to save Watson’s season and maybe career.
