#4: Build a foundation for team chemistry with so many additions

All of the things listed previously boil down to this point. There are so many new faces on this team that were playing elsewhere last year. The Rockets haven’t had this much turnover in a while so it’ll be of the utmost importance for this team build chemistry as fast as possible.

It’s usually pretty rare that new additions fit in seamlessly as it takes time for everyone to learn each other’s playing style, preferences, and the system, for the new guys. 60% of the guys on the 15 man roster were not on the opening day roster from last year.

We’ve already broken down the necessity of integrating Melo as efficiently and rapidly as possible. But he’s just one of the nine guys that are going to help this team strive to reach the ultimate goal of becoming the champion.

Ennis will probably play the most integral role beyond Melo on this team so ensuring that the other guys know him and can trust him will be important. Chriss and MCW could also play some key minutes off the bench for this team. Knight could also be a contributor once he’s healthy but he has yet to even practice with the team.

The Bahamas trip, training camp in Louisiana, and preseason warmup games are a good foundation for team chemistry. However, the real chemistry is going to take grinding with your teammates in the regular season in games that matter.

Next. Three role players who earned playing time in the preseason. dark

There are sure to be bumps along the way as these guys still get to know each other and figure each other out on the court but I have no doubt that a team built around the nucleus of Harden, Paul, and Capela will take off well in the first month of the season.
