Houston Astros second baseman, Jose Altuve, is banged up, he should play tonight but maybe not at second base. Here are three options on how to replace him in the field.
The Houston Astros are locked into a battle of a series with the Boston Red Sox for the right to represent the American League in the World Series. The first two games of the series took place in Boston and third game of the series will be this afternoon in Houston at 4:09. You can catch the game on TBS.
The Astros took game one against the Red Sox behind a strong outing by Justin Verlander and some late offense powered by Josh Reddick and Yuli Gurriel. Game two was more of a battle as the Red Sox jumped on Gerrit Cole early and were able to hold on for a 7-5 win.
Postseason baseball is truly a grind. All of these players have played 100s of games, thrown 1,000s of balls, and swung 1,000s of bats. It’s a testament to these players that they can come out give stellar performances in October. So, it’s natural that guys are banged up towards the end of the season and in the postseason.
Ironman second baseman, Jose Altuve, has not been exempt from this rule this season unlike in years past. At the end of July, the Houston Astros placed Altuve on the DL for the first time in his career. He missed 21 games and was activated from the DL on August 21st.
The reigning MVP is extremely crucial to this team and have him for the last 5+ weeks of the season was huge to the team winning the AL West division crown again. Even though he’s struggled in the playoffs, he’s been essential to the team now as well.
However, he banged up his knee again in the divisional round of the playoffs against the Indians. He’s been trying to grind it out for his team but it’s starting to take its toll. So, the Astros may give him some “rest” by placing him at DH in tonight’s game. Here are the three most likely ways the team can replace him in the field.
