D’Onta Foreman showed promise prior to getting injured last season, here is why he is the piece that will fix most of the Houston Texans offensive woes.

The Houston Texans are currently the fourth-ranked total offense in the NFL, however, they are the eighteenth ranked scoring offense. The offense has looked better and better every week, however, there are still plenty of deficiencies.

The Texans consistently get to the red zone, however, they do not score as efficiently. There is such a variance because the team has struggled to convert in short yardage situations (Anywhere on the field) and have struggled in the red zone in general.

Currently, the Texans starting running back is Lamar Miller. Lamar is a productive back, however, there is no more hiding it, he is a third down back. His elusiveness is back but that seems to have prevented him from doing much North-South running.

With Miller out, Alfred Blue got the start against the Cowboys and his power running style was a lot more effective for the team and what they were and are trying to do on offense. Blue, just like Lamar was productive but he is limited and is a better as a backup.

D’Onta Foreman, on the other hand, led the country in rushing with 2,028 yards in only 11 games in his final season at the University of Texas. He also won the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the country’s best running back.

If you watched Foreman last year, you saw the promise. Each game he displayed power and nimble feet. The best part of Foreman’s game is that he rarely loses yards, consistently found holes, and converted in short yardage situations. He did this with an offensive line very similar to this years offensive line.

After watching Deshaun Watson get beat up last week, Texans fan no longer want to see him being forced into trying to convert in these situations. Which is why Foreman’s return is big and will in effect, fix the Texans short yardage and red zone issues.

Last year, Foreman rushed 78 times for 327 yards and two touchdowns for the Houston Texans. However, the numbers are solid but don’t display the promise. If he’s 100% from his Achilles injury, Foreman could have a tremendous impact on this offense.
