Houston Astros: Top 10 moments of the 2018 regular season
#6 Marwin Gonzalez Saves the Astros Again
Up until this point, the biggest homer of Marwin Gonzalez’s career was the one he hit in Game 2 of the 2017 World Series. His biggest regular-season homer probably was the grand slam against Texas last year. Well, that might have to be moved out of the way for a clutch three-run homer in the ninth inning.
Down 1-0 to the San Francisco Giants, the Houston Astros were one out away from a treacherous loss. This was when the Astros were still missing some key players and were just holding on for dear life. Suffice to say, it appeared the Giants would get that one chance to beat the Astros this year. However, Houston had two on base and Marwin coming up.
Marwin was hitting right-handed because he was facing lefty Will Smith (obviously no relation to the actor). Also, Marwin had been struggling by then. So if the Astros wanted to win then, it would come down to another clutch Marwin homer. Boy, did he deliver?
The Astros would pick up a huge win and would complete the sweep the next day. I could’ve put Tyler White’s homer that gave the Astros a 2-1 win against the Giants. But Marwin’s was more important because the A’s were still slithering around like a snake.
