Clint Capela was built for this offensive scheme

His first two years in the league, Capela was an average offensive big man. He collected most of his offense on cleanups and rebounds and the occasional lob. However, when Mike D’Antoni took over, Capela began to realize his immense offensive potential.

The 2016-17 season was the first season with D’Antoni leading the charge. Capela’s offensive game, and playing time for that matter, skyrocketed. His field goal percentage jumped over 80 points that year and he also averaged over double-digit points for the first time in his career.

Capela isn’t an incredible free throw shooter but, in 16-17, his free throw percentage jumped 150 points to .531. His offensive rating was also outstanding, coming in 122 points per 100 possessions.

Of course, D’Antoni can’t take all of the credit for this massive development. Capela has put in a lot of time with Houston Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon, who, you likely know, was the most elite center to ever play the game. Capela himself also gets a lot of credit for the effort he puts into his game as well.

On top of all that, Capela was built for this Rockets offense. He is the perfect player for the pick and roll offense and for spacing the floor with four shooters hovering around the perimeter. He also has two of the best passers in the game tosses balls into the paint for him to finish off either on lobs or with his great arsenal of post moves.
