Houston Rockets: Three reasons why Clint Capela will be a top three center
By T.A. Mock
The Houston Rockets inked Clint Capela to a huge deal this offseason. Let’s take a look at why he will elevate his game and become a top 3 center this season.
The Houston Rockets season is just around the corner. There are less than two weeks until training camp starts and the start of the regular season is less than a month away. The excitement is starting to ramp up as this team looks very different but even deeper than before.
James Harden is fresh off of his MVP campaign and is as hungry as ever. Chris Paul is healthy and ready to get back to a conference finals and hopefully an NBA finals appearance. Carmelo Anthony is ready to get rolling with a new team and hopefully get to his first NBA finals.
However, Clint Capela, the man with the ink still drying on his five-year, $90 million contract, is the guy that has me most excited for the 2018-19 season. The young big man reached fantastic heights last season and just now going to be turning 25 this season.
He had his best season as a pro last season, it saw him shoot 65% from the field, which led the league, and average 13.9 points per game, 10.8 rebounds per game, which was was the first time in his career he averaged double-digit rebounds. He also averaged 1.9 blocks and 0.8 steals per game.
Capela was in the final voting options for the most improved player in the NBA. Unfortunately, this award has turned into “the best season coming off of an injury” award. Capela likely should have won this as he improved mightily. However, there is no reason to believe this past season was his peak.
The sky is the limit for the Houston Rockets center. I believe the best is yet to come. So, let’s take a look at three reasons why Capela’s star will keep ascending and he will climb to be a bonafide top three center in the entire league.
