Thing #2: The Blame Game

You know what I’m going to refer to. I simply said “caught” when it was mentioned earlier when I was reenacting the Houston Texans undoing of their Week 1 matchup.

We all know damn well that Gronk didn’t catch that pass. It was a spectacular effort but it wasn’t enough.

The catch was apparently conclusive enough for the refs but the call isn’t what pisses me off.

You know damn well what O’Brien did.  He did not call a timeout in unarguably the biggest turning point of the game. He instead just let the Patriots offense get set and run the next play, therefore the call couldn’t be changed.

That wasn’t even the worse part. We all know what Bill O’Brien said in the post game conference when they asked him why he didn’t call a timeout to get the call changed.

And here’s the quote heard ’round the world:

Houston Texans HC Bill O'Brien

“It’s not my job.”

What the hell did you just say? Did you just say that calling a timeout to get the refs to make the right call FOR YOUR OWN TEAM, the Houston Texans, is not your job?

I’ve heard some ridiculous things but this line was going to make me cry.

Let’s forget the fact whether Gronk’s catch should’ve been complete or not. What I saw was Brady ready to lift-off in the two-minute drill. I saw the greatest QB of all time running offense with two minutes before the half ended and he was going to get this score if we didn’t make a move. The Texans had allowed two big runs and Brady was going to use that to make a big play to build nonstop momentum.

I think that deserves a timeout in general. Let’s regroup the defense and figure out how to possibly find a way to halt this offense.

Mr. O’Brien, don’t you agree?

Apparently not.

More from House of Houston

When he should’ve called a timeout he didn’t. Then he lets a huge incomplete pass count as a catch, making it only easier for Brady to reach the end zone.

Okay, Mr. O’Brien, it isn’t your job to make sure the refs get the right call but isn’t it your job to help your own team win?

If you had signaled for a timeout, the call would’ve been changed and the defense could’ve regrouped. But instead, your defense stayed just as confused and made Brady’s job only easier to reach the end zone.

It’s your damn job to try and help the team win, right Mr. O’Brien?

With the way things were handled, to be frank with you, I’m not so sure he would emphatically say “yes,” based off of what I saw. I saw a coach who was pushing blame on the referees when he could’ve simply called one timeout to change the outcome.

Now, it’s clear I’m writing this with anger, because I have not gotten over the loss yet. I actually forgive Mr. O’Brien as crazy as that sounds. But he better know that the way he coached during this game, especially during the last two minutes was unacceptable.

It is YOUR JOB Mr. O’Brien and you damn well know it!
