Houston Astros: The ideal playoff scenario to repeat as World Champions
By T.A. Mock
The World Series Matchup
As the National League currently stands, there won’t be a World Series rematch between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers are in second place in their division and third in the Wild Card race. The Cubs are riding high at the top of the National League even though they are worse than four American League teams, record-wise at least. The sit behind the Red Sox, Yankees, Astros, and A’s.
Right now, the other two division leaders are the Braves in the NL East and the Rockies in the NL West. The two Wild Card slots are filled by two former division rivals of the Astros: the Brewers and the Cardinals.
Honestly, I have no idea how any of this is going to go on this side of the bracket. These teams are all really evenly matched and have played very evenly against each other all year long. But, we’ll take a crack at it anyway.

The Brewers and Cardinals are 8-8 against each other this season but, they still have a series left to play. The Cardinals will escape the Wild Card round and matchup against the Cubs. The Cardinals have the seasons series lead over the Cubs and I believe they come out strong and beat them. In the other NLDS, the Rockies will take care of a young Braves team to advance to the NLCS.
So, the NLCS will be the Rockies facing off against the Cardinals. The Cardinals have the season series at 5-2. They’re honestly the more dangerous team right now too, they have a potent lineup and are getting healthy and more dangerous in their pitching staff.
However, the Astros are better off against the Rockies than the Cardinals. The Astros split the series with the Rockies 2-2 and haven’t faced the Cardinals since 2016. A team in the World Series will never be easy to beat but, if the Astros are wishing for the perfect scenario to unfold for them, it’s the Rockies in the World Series.
Obviously, this is all speculation. All of these teams aren’t guaranteed to make the playoffs on either side of the bracket. But, as things stand now, this is the ideal way for things to unfold to ensure the Houston Astros reach the World Series and win back to back titles.
