Houston Rockets: Predicting the 2018-19 depth chart
By T.A. Mock
Starter: PJ Tucker
A popular pick for the Houston Rockets starting power forward is Carmelo Anthony. It seems more of a natural position for the former MVP candidate but, not to spoil anything, I have pinned as the team’s starting small forward. However, when it all comes down to it, the Rockets are just playing two forwards and where they match up depends on the opponents.
PJ Tucker will take over the lead defensive role for the Rockets after Trevor Ariza’s departure. He is excellent on defense and can truly guard all five positions. He is also solid on offense and can hit the corner three like it’s no body’s business. He’ll be solid for the team all year long and will be a key lynchpin.
Reserve: Marquese Chriss
Marquese Chriss was one of two pieces the Rockets get in return for Ryan Anderson and De’Anthony Melton. The former first-round pick has had a bumpy start to his career but starting a career for the Suns is difficult.
Chriss still has exponential amounts of potential at the four. He is extremely athletic which helps him on defense and on the glass. He hasn’t been able to unlock the three-point potential he flashed in college but if any team can boost that potential, it is the Rockets.
