Houston Texans: Five ways to improve the roster before week one

Davis Webb, QB
The New York Giants selected Davis Webb out of the University of California in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft. He had previously spent a few years battling for a job at Texas Tech that he eventually lost to Pat Mahomes.
He had a pretty great year at Cal for his senior year. He threw for 4,295 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also completed 62% of his passes and only threw 12 interceptions. This all compiled to be a 135.6 QB rating, very good in terms in college stats.

He appeared to be the heir apparent to Eli Manning in New York but, then the regime that drafted him was ousted and a new one was brought in. The new regime then went out and added their own heir apparent to Eli in Kyle Lauletta. However, the Giants ended up keeping all three quarterbacks including journeyman Alex Tanney.
As the new regime selected Lauletta and Tanney does not have much value, I expect the Giants only kept Webb in an attempt to trade him for some assets as to not lose all value. The Texans should pounce on the opportunity to add a guy like Webb. He would be a phenomenal backup to Watson and a big improvement over Weeden. He also wouldn’t take a huge haul, maybe a 5th or 6th round pick.
If the Houston Texans didn’t want to give up draft assets for a quarterback but still wanted to improve the position, there are options. Landry Jones formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Connor Cook formerly of the Oakland Raiders are both available and have higher upside than Weeden.
There are plenty of options that could still improve this team, far beyond these five guys. But, look for the Houston Texans to at least get poke around to figure out what they can do.
