Houston Texans: Five ways to improve the roster before week one
By T.A. Mock
Dan Bailey, K
The Cowboys shocked a lot of people on Saturday when they cut longtime kicker Dan Bailey opting for a younger, cheaper kicker instead. Bailey had missed four games the previous season due to injury and was having the worst year of his career but, he was still a very solid kicker.
Bailey, as currently stands, is the second most accurate kicker in NFL history. Bailey has converted an astounding 88.2% of his field goal attempts in his career, including three seasons of over 93%. The only kicker that has been better is Justin Tucker.
Bailey has also been extremely reliable when it comes to extra points. Prior to 2017, Bailey converted on 250 extra points on 250 attempts. That’s right, he had a 100% success rate. Unfortunately, he missed two extra points last year when they narrowed the posts but, his career mark still stands at 99.3%.
The Texans don’t necessarily need an upgrade at kicker as Ka’imi Fairbairn converted on 80% of his field goals and 91.4% of his extra points. But, when you can add one of the best to ever do it, then you add him.
The Houston Texans shouldn’t look to switch guys at this position unless it targets Bailey but, if they wanted another option Roberto Aguayo is looking for another team. However, Aguayo isn’t a better option over Fairbairn.
