Houston Texans: Five ways to improve the roster before week one
By T.A. Mock
Steven Terrell, S
Steven Terrell went undrafted out of Texas A&M back in 2013 and spent the majority of that season on the Texans practice squad. At the end of that year, the Texans signed him to a reserve/future contract but, they ended up cutting him in May. He then caught on with the Seahawks and spent the next three years with them.
He ended up getting some pretty solid playing time with the Seahawks during those years. He spent the majority of the first two years on special teams but played some safety. However, 2016 saw a shift for him due to some injuries and he stepped up and played in all 16 games while starting in five.
Terrell parlayed his solid play in 2016 into a contract with the Chiefs. He played in 10 games with them and recorded his first career interception and was gaining some steam before getting injured. He graded out above average according to PFF.
He signed on with the Titans for the 2018 season but they cut him at the end of the preseason. The Texans should bring Terrell back into the fold. He would provide solid depth at safety and provide great play on special teams. The Texans could need to reevaluate the safety position after cleaning house backup wise.
Other defensive backs the Houston Texans could look at are Leon McFadden formerly of the Atlanta Falcons, Darian Thompson formerly of the New York Giants, and Shamarko Thomas formerly of the Denver Broncos.
