Houston Texans: 2018 consensus regular season award predictions
By T.A. Mock
Least Valuable Player: Senio Kelemete (2 votes)
Others receiving votes: Will Fuller (1 vote), Kendall Lamm (1 vote), Tyrann Mathieu (1 vote)
This was another tight race, and it’s not a great sign that the Texans could potentially have a tight race for their least valuable player. Regardless, this is a hard ‘award’ to pick, especially for fans of a team that has their best wishes in mind.
That being said, Senio Kelemete received the most votes for LVP for this season. The Houston Texans signed Kelemete to a three-year deal this offseason and so far the returns don’t look very promising. He’s supposed to be the Texans starting left guard so they could be in trouble if he doesn’t pan out.
Fuller is entering a make it or break season this year. We’ve highlighted earlier his potential to make it but, he’s also still on the verge of busting. Injuries have played a huge part in his potential to be a bust but, bricks for hands have also played a part. If he can’t put it all together this year, he may be looking for a new job next year.
Kendall Lamm won the job to be the primary backup tackle. Gracia notes that he performed pretty well this preseason but, he did it playing against second and third stringers. If Davenport doesn’t pan out and Henderson can’t get healthy, Lamm may be the first guy off the bench and that doesn’t necessarily bode well for the Texans.
Lamb isn’t buying into the Tyrann Mathieu hype. Drafting Reid and converting Jackson to safety could make Mathieu a redundancy especially considering he hasn’t played incredibly well the past few seasons and has dealt with injuries.
