Houston Texans: 2018 consensus regular season award predictions
By T.A. Mock
Offensive Player of the Year: DeAndre Hopkins, WR (4 votes)
Others receiving votes: Deshaun Watson, QB (2 votes)
DeAndre Hopkins steals this one away from Watson in a four to two vote. Now, of course, if Hopkins wins this award it means Watson had a pretty dadgum year as well. Hopkins success will largely depend on Watson but, Hopkins easily has a claim as the number one wide receiver in football.
A lot of our writers agreed that Hopkins and Watson are going to create a ton of highlights. Hopkins has an uncanny ability to catch nearly any pass that comes his way. He can outrun a lot of defenders and he can out leap the majority of defenders.
Hopkins great hands and crisp route running will elevate him above the rest of the offense this season. He’ll likely continue to take the next step in his career like he has done every year. He’s also beginning to press into contention for the best receiver in team history.
Our guys that voted for Watson believe that in a full, healthy season that he can lead this team to a winning record and even a playoff berth. He has some stuff to work on, such as his touchdown to interception ratio, but he has a good shot to be one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
