Martinas Rankin’s first action

The Texans this week took Rankin off the PUP list and placed him on the active roster. He was expected to come in and compete for a starting job along the offensive line. He suffered a foot injury during rookie minicamp and has been out since then.

Now that he’s back, he’ll look to start competing again and pushing the guys that have been getting starter reps. Julien Davenport is at left tackle and Seantrel Henderson is at right tackle. The best part about competition is the team gets better because of it.

Here is good news about the O-Line compared to last year, they have yet to give up a sack this entire preseason. The O-Line has improved but will still need some work as Senio Kelemente appears to be getting outplayed on some snaps. I believe he will be fine come opening Sunday, he’s just got to get used to the new blocking schemes.

Hopefully, the plan is to have Rankin challenge Henderson at RT and to keep Davenport at LT. I think Davenport has the potential to be a pro-bowler. Davenport is HUGE, he’s got the arms the size of a sequoia tree.

Regardless, it’ll be good to see the third round pick get on the field in some live action. So, keep an eye out for this young buck.
