Starter: Jordan Akins

The Houston Texans haven’t taken a tight end this high since Owen Daniels way back when. We know how that turned out, Daniels was and remains to this day, the best tight end in team history. They really haven’t had any solid production since he was cut.

Akins balled out in the first preseason game catching two touchdown passes to start his career. He was absent against the 49ers but, he is everything the Texans need and want in a tight end. He is big and fast, can catch, and can block. He’ll have this position on lock for years to come.

Reserves: Ryan Griffin, Jordan Thomas

Griffin was a favorite target of Watson’s last year so, he has intriguing potential. He also is the best blocker of the group. The Texans will likely run quite a few two tight end sets this year especially if they’re not feeling a third wide receiver.

The Texans surprised when they doubled up at tight end in the 2018 draft. However, Thomas’ potential is just too fascinating to pass up. He is HUGE and is very athletic. He has a shot to make some spot impacts as the season progresses. He’s also a nice handcuff if Griffin gets hurt again.
