Player #2: David Quessenberry

To say that it’s a miracle that we’re having this discussion about David Quessenberry with all of what he has been going through is nothing short of amazing.  This man is a cancer survivor that is just now making headway into this roster.  DQ didn’t even know if he’d be able to play football again while he was fighting for life, recovering from such a tragic disease that has affected us all either directly or indirectly.

A sixth-round pick out of San Jose State in 2013, DQ was a player that Bill O’Brien inherited rather than pick himself but one can obviously say that it’s wonderful that these two have matched up with one another.

Having been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin T-lymphoblastic lymphoma back in 2014, it has been a tumultuous battle for DQ not only to get back to the gridiron but for his life as well.

Three Texans players likely to be Hall of Famers. light. Must Read

After spending most of 2017 on the practice squad, he was activated because of the immense need for depth on the line and he certainly made the most of his opportunity.  His first career game was against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16 — I was there! — and although it was a miserable 34-6 loss for the Houston Texans, DQ shined brightly as a guy that could be a integral to the success of this line.

He’s holding his own out on the field, consistently not being pushed around by his opposing counterparts and is immensely staying upright on his own two feet which is the greatest connotation of his life encapsulated as a whole.

Under the tutelage of offensive line coach Mike Devlin, DQ is molding himself into the type of player one can rely on for this season as he continues to get better at his craft.

That positive trajectory is continuing for Quessenberry as he had the highest PFF pass block grade (79.4) out of all the line, and took all 35 of his snaps at left guard against the Chiefs, allowing one QB hurry and one pressure.

Now that his cancer is in remission, I’m positive that his goal is to make the most of his NFL career to which I’m sure he will as he’ll be celebrating his 28th birthday Aug. 24th.  We all can look no further than DQ as an inspiration to prove that one can do anything if their mind can be put to it.  STAY STRONG DQ!
