1. The tight end position is in a heated battle

Last week, rookie TE Jordan Akins put on a show as he scored 2 TD’s in the win against the Chiefs. In this week’s game, he will be looking to build his case on why he should be the starting TE come September 9th. I had the pleasure of going to training camp this week and he was looking fantastic against the 49ers defense in various amounts of drills they went through.

However, we should not forget about the other tight ends on the depth chart. Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson have played fairly well for this team in previous years. Jordan Thomas is an enormous, athletic monster. All three could easily see playing time.

There already seems to be an odd man out. I think it is only a matter of time before Anderson is cut, his days in a Houston Texans uniform are numbered. I don’t see why the team would carry 4 tight ends.

Ryan Griffin is one of Deshaun Watson’s favorite targets and I got to see that in camp earlier this week. He and Watson connected on multiple occasions with the result of positive outcomes. Griffin is a sleeper in fantasy leagues and will put up good numbers for any owner this season.

I like Jordan Thomas, I really do. I love his size and his game. He has the same measurements as Rob Gronkowski and in camp, he looked like a freight train when he has the ball in his hands. There was one play where Thomas went up and absolutely bullied a 49ers defender for the ball. I think very well that tonight he will put on a show for the home fans.

Here are my TE rankings as of right now:

  1. Akins
  2. Griffin
  3. Thomas
  4. Anderson

That could change tonight, but my goodness this is the best position battle in camp.
