Houston Rockets: 3 reasons why the Melo-MDA sequel will be better
By T.A. Mock
Paul, Harden, and Capela are better for Melo
It’s safe to say that Melo has not had the greatest caliber of teammates throughout his career. He has had good times, sure. He’s had teammates that allowed him to run the league for a portion of his career. However, Melo has never had teammates like Chris Paul, James Harden, and Clint Capela.
He never had star teammates in Denver. He also never had them in New York, Kristaps Porzingis was close but never quite got there when Melo was there. He did have star teammates last year in Oklahoma City with Russell Westbrook and Paul George.
However, the combo of Paul and Harden is immensely better than the combo of Westbrook and George. Don’t get me wrong, Westbrook and George are excellent players but, they’re not as good for Melo as Paul and Harden will be.

In his NBA career, Melo has never played with an elite distributor. I know that Westbrook averages a lot of assists but, he is not an elite distributor. In Houston, Melo will not only play with one but two elite distributors. Harden and Paul are two of the best passers in the game and will undoubtedly work out better for Melo than any teammates he’s had before.
In his team USA basketball career, Melo has played with elite distributors, including Paul. It’s not too far of a stretch to say that Melo is at his best on those USA teams. He turns into something far different and better when he has guys running the point that know how to distribute at an elite level.
Capela also provides an elite big to play alongside Melo. Melo has rarely seen the likes of Capela on one of his teams. Capela is a guy who can dominate the paint better than nearly everyone in the NBA.
Melo will be better off with these three guys than anyone else he’s played with in his NBA career. So much so that he may even be able to channel “Olympic Melo.”
These three reasons are why this sequel of the Melo-MDA relationship will be better than the first. The situations, circumstance, and teammates are all better than before. Melo helps make the Houston Rockets more lethal.
