Houston Texans: 5 players trending up/down after first preseason game
By T.A. Mock
Trending Down: Andre Chachere, CB, #37
You may be thinking, how can a guy be trending down that I might not have heard of before? Well, that has to do with the state of the Houston Texans cornerback position. Chachere was undrafted out of San Jose State. He has good size and slightly above average speed and athleticism.
But, last night, his angles were poor and he missed a few too many tackles. For a time that only has three spots at corner 100% locked down, Chachere had a shot to come in and swoop up a roster spot. Right now, his chances aren’t looking too hot but, there’s still time for him to turn it around.
Trending Up: Josh Thornton, CB, #36
Josh Thornton, on the other hand, took his opportunity and absolutely ran with it. He was signed to the Texans practice squad in December. He was previously undrafted after spending two years at Southern Utah and two years in JUCO.
Thornton didn’t manage a single tackle in last night’s game but, that is because he didn’t let anyone near him catch the ball. By my count, he had three pass breakups including a clutch break up on 4th and goal with the game-tying touchdown on the line. He had perfect position and timing. Keep Thornton’s name in your mind if this game is any indication as he could easily crack the 53 man roster.
