The tight ends

The problem with the Houston Texans tight end group in fantasy football, and maybe in real life, is that there is currently zero hints as to who is going to win the starting job in 2018. Ryan Griffin is the incumbent and led the group in targets when Watson was healthy.

But, he doesn’t look like the most likely guy to receive the lion’s share of targets in 2018. The Houston Texans have totally revamped the tight end position heading into the new season. It was a needed revamping especially after CJ Fiedorowicz’s early retirement due to concussions.

Griffin and Stephen Anderson are the holdovers at the position and, at this point, I’m not sure if either of their roster spots are guaranteed. The team added Jordan Akins in the third round of the draft and Jordan Thomas in the sixth. Matt Lengel was also claimed off of waivers.

Any of those guys could make the roster and produce at the tight end position. I wouldn’t count on any of them to be your number one tight end but, they could serve as number two fairly easily. Anderson and Akins probably have the best fantasy potential of the bunch.

Anderson is like a big wide receiver and could see some time in the slot. He has the athleticism to be a very productive receiver. He can catch balls over safeties and can run past linebackers. The same can be said about Akins but more from an in-line spot rather than flexed out.

If you’re going to gamble on a Texans tight end, I’d go with one of those two. Just don’t expect them to carry you to a championship and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
