The Houston Rockets 2018-19 squad is finally coming together. Capela signed, Melo will join the team soon. The team is now looking to add a defender through a trade, let’s take a look at three options.

The Houston Rockets got off to an awfully slow start this offseason. The first few days of free agency saw the team re-sign Chris Paul to a four year, max deal. But, after that, nothing. No luring stars to form an unstoppable trio in Houston. No news on the Clint Capela front. Nothing.

Finally, the team was linked to a player and actually signed them. The team inked promising 3-and-D James Ennis III to a one year deal. Ennis will help fill the roster holes that Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute left when they signed elsewhere earlier in the offseason.

Next, the news about the Thunder potentially buying out Carmelo Anthony broke. Immediately, the Melo to the Rockets rumors began swirling. Then the Thunder traded Melo to the Hawks who are expected to him out shortly. Melo has basically agreed to join the Rockets after the buyout for the veteran’s minimum.

Then, a couple days ago, the Houston Rockets and Capela finally agreed to a deal to lock the big man down for the foreseeable future. The two sides agreed to a five-year deal worth $90 million. Getting Capela locked down for $18 million a year is a downright bargain in today’s NBA when lesser bigs like Steven Adams got a $100 million deal.

The 2018-19 roster is finally beginning to take shape after a slow start. The team’s prospects are improving with every deal. Now, it appears that the team is looking to add to it’s depth once again. However, with the team already well over the luxury tax line, it’ll need to trade to do so.

Specifically, the team is looking to add defensive depth to help better fill the void left by Ariza and LMM. Ennis helps but, Melo does not. So, Daryl Morey will have to get creative to add some wing help. Without further adieu, let’s take a look at three options the team should explore trading for.
