Guards

Starters: James Harden, Chris Paul

Simple. The MVP and one of the best passers to ever play the game form one of the most formidable backcourts in the entire league. Harden and Paul can both take over the game at any moment. They both have the ability to make a run that will take the league or put away a team.

More from House of Houston

Year two of this tandem will only make this team better. It really seemed Harden and Paul were just hitting their stride together in the playoffs when Paul got injured. If they can hit the ground running again in the 2018-19 season, they’ll pilot the Houston Rockets to another deep playoff run.

Reserves: Eric GordonGerald Green, De’Anthony Melton, Rob Gray

Without question, Gordon is still the sixth man and first guy off of the bench for this team. He has improved his ball handling and distributing abilities as well in order to alleviate Harden and Paul. He’ll provide solid defense and excellent marksmanship from downtown once again. Green was made for this offense. His speed, hustle, and three-point shot will be great off the bench.

Melton has great potential but, he may take a while to adjust to the pro game. He was forced to sit out his sophomore year at USC so, the Summer League was his first shot at real basketball in over a year. Gray is a wild card to make the roster but, as our man Curt Low pointed out, he has the ability to dominate offensively. Time will tell if he can take an NBA beating and step up against a higher level of competition.

We’ll see if this roster can compete like last year’s. The 2017-18 Houston Rockets were a historic team. Likely, comparing the two will be a disservice to the 2018-19 team. They’ll be good in their own right. However, it’ll be a tough task to attempt to topple the Warriors this year.
