Houston Astros: Week 8 Recap: Snapped, Crackled and Popped
From record breaking highs to earth shattering lows, the Houston Astros roller coaster of a 2018 season hit a few bumps on the trail this past week.
The Houston Astros had a short home sweep in their favor to go with a split that didn’t go over so nicely. Two players broke records, and two others made numerous highlights. Here now is the Houston Astros: Week 8 Recap!
Yes Way, Jose!
According to a report from the Houston Chronicle, Sunday saw Jose Altuve get his 10th consecutive hit. That ties a franchise record. Additionally, he was just two consecutive hits shy of tying the major league record for the same statistic.
Because of this streak, Altuve has raised his average up over 30 points, and OPS over 100 points. Consequently, that puts him back to near where he was when getting his batting title last season. Safe to say, the MVP is back!

editor, Brian Patterson, pointed out just the other day that the All Star shortstop has gone 61 games without a single fielding error. The last time it happened was all the way back last September.
Ironically, the major league record for consecutive games without an error for his position is 110. Between his work in Spring Training and what has happened so far, Correa is on great pace to tie it. That is, of course, if he doesn’t break it. Finger crossed for that one!
The Bear Necessities
Also in the Houston Astros: Week 8 Recap is Evan Gattis continuing his offensive roll. He went 5-for-13 in this past series in Cleveland with 2 homers and 8 RBI in that stretch. Gattis has a .350 average and a OPS near 1.000 over the past week.
Unfortunately, his two big homers in yesterday’s game along with Altuve’s consecutive hits were all for not. The Astros ended up falling to the Tribe in extra innings to leave town with a series split. And it doesn’t get an easier for the spacemen, who now head to the Bronx to face the New York Yankees for the next three games.
