214th Overall: Peter Kalambayi, OLB Stanford

Dagnabit, another double, double-dip. This time the Houston Texans snatched up another EDGE defender and again from Palo Alto. Following the trend of the draft, they also added another athletic player.

Kalambayi while athletic, was never able to fully match that with on the field production. That didn’t keep him off the field for Stanford though. He managed to amass 189 tackles and 18.5 sacks in his career.

However, Kalambayi also has great leadership ability and character. He was a team captain for Stanford for two years. When you can mesh athleticism with leadership and character this late in the draft, you jump on it.

Kalambayi has a good shot to make the roster due to that, but also because he should be a solid special teams contributor.

I like the value and potential of this pick a lot, I just don’t know if it was necessary to dip back into the EDGE defender pool.
