What to look for on day three

The Houston Texans began to solidify the secondary with Reid. They started the process of patching up the offensive line with Rankin. Lastly, they filled a big hole at tight end with Akins.

Gaine and the rest of his crew still have a lot of work to do. They have five selections to make today, one in the fourth, three in the sixth, and one in the seventh.

There are plenty of spots for the team to address.

More from House of Houston

After the team parted ways with Brian Cushing, it opened up a linebacker spot. There are also plenty of depth pieces that could be added. After last year’s injury problems, the team could use draft capital on a pass rusher or defensive line.

Josh Sweat from Florida State is my favorite left on the board. The former number one overall recruit has been compared to JD Clowney since HIGH SCHOOL. So who better to learn from than Clowney?

There are also draft fallers like Maurice Hurst and Tim Settle for the team to sweep up like Reid. They would add depth on a defensive line that has two solid guys and one star.

Look for the team to address the cornerback position. The first three slots on the cornerback depth chart are filled, but it gets murkier after that. Anthony Averett, Parry Nickerson, and Holten Hill are names to watch out for.

The team could also look to draft a backup quarterback and a backup running back. That’s probably all you’ll see on offense for the Houston Texans tomorrow. There may be another offensive lineman to be picked up, but after Rankin, it seems less likely.

All in all, Gaine and company didn’t have a bad start to their first draft. When your first pick is in the third round, you’re starting behind the eight ball. Look for the team to try to begin to round out the roster. There is still some solid talent left on the board hopefully, the Texans will capitalize!
