The Houston Rockets have a chance to close out their first-round series of the playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves.  They have 3-1 lead and the odds are certainly looking forward to the team moving on to their next opponent.  Let’s examine further.

The Houston Rockets have done some incredible things this season and all signs indicate to this team will be the last standing when it’s all said and done.  It won’t be an easy road ahead after this series but I think they have the firepower to take down even the toughest of opponents.

That’s likely going to be in the next series against the Utah Jazz, an improved and tough opponent that has really locked down on their defense over time.  Considering how well the team did against the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, the latter mentioned would’ve been a less difficult path.

But back to this series.  How about that time I told you about the Houston Rockets scoring a

franchise-record 50 points in quarter?  Yes, it actually happened and it was in Game 4 — which was on the road by the way — against the T-Wolves.  Things were looking a lot like Game 1 where they let were letting the T-Wolves hang around which is certainly a dangerous thing to do.

The worst thing one can do is give an underdog team confidence which certainly would allude to the 121-105 losing result of Game 3.  But the Houston Rockets weren’t having it this time — James Harden, Chris Paul and even P.J. Tucker catapulted to the team to that historical moment.

By the all of the smoke had cleared from all the offensive explosion that they had, the Houston Rockets saw themselves up  by 31 points with a 100-69 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter.  That was absolutely an incredible thing to witness from this team and it goes to show they can turn on the afterburners if the situation warrants.  What a feat considering that they led 52-49 going into the 2nd half.

And it’s because of scenarios like these the Houston Rockets will prevail to go to the Western Conference Semis.  Bovada has them as a 12-point favorite tonight and that’s likely on target with the team covering that and then some.

It should be a fun close-out game the team will win on their home court to start the next series, which will likely be within the next couple of days.  We’ll have to see.

Next: The Jazz are a better 2nd-round opponent than the Thunder
