A look at the games on San Jacinto Day 2018

This Saturday the Astros and Rockets will face teams they’ve never played before on San Jacinto Day.

More from House of Houston

When the Astros, led by Dallas Keuchel, take on the White Sox on Saturday it will be the 17th different team they will have played on San Jacinto Day.

Their most common opponent has been the Los Angeles Dodgers. Houston is 5-4 against the Dodgers on our state holiday. Other teams the Astros have played at least five times on April 21 are the Reds (3-4) and Atlanta (5-1).

It has also been five years since the Astros played at home on San Jacinto Day. It will be another year before they can play at home on April 21.

The Rockets, with Clint Capela helping lead the charge, will face their 11th different San Jacinto opponent when they take on Minnesota in game three of the first round on Saturday. Last year the Rockets had a two-game SJD win streak snapped by Oklahoma City.

Houston’s most common hoops opponent has been Utah (three times), Dallas (three times) and the Seattle/Oklahoma City club (three times).

With April 21 falling on a Sunday next year it is almost certain that the Astros will play on their 16th straight San Jacinto Day.

For the Rockets it will depend on the playoff schedule but its possible they make it five straight years that both of Houston’s sports teams that could play on San Jacinto day are playing that day.

I just hope both games are in Houston.
