San Jacinto Day reaches the millennium

The first decade of the new millennium was hit or miss for the Houston sports teams on San Jacinto Day.

Every year but 2003 had the Astros playing. In their nine SJD games the Astros went 5-4.

The Rockets didn’t play on San Jacinto Day until 2007 when they beat Utah in game one of the first round. It was the first of three straight years the Rockets played on San Jacinto Day. They lost first round games to Utah in 2008 and Portland in 2009.

Consistent games on San Jacinto Day

Since 2010 Houston sports teams have shared the day six times. However, both teams only won on San Jacinto Day once, in 2015.

The Astros have gone 4-4 in their eight games this decade. A win this year would be the Astros fourth in the last five San Jacinto Days. The Rockets have played on five San Jacinto Days and gone 3-2 in those games.

Overall the Astros are 28-22 all-time on San Jacinto Day. The Rockets are 11-7 all-time on San Jacinto Day including 6-5 in the playoffs.
