What the Astros need to do moving forward

Our goal is to repeat and I do believe that we should be a contender. But in order to do that, we should take small steps to achieve the goal. I know we’re not controlling our players here, but if we had steps set for the team, they might come to good use. These are a few small steps I have set that we can try to use.

#1 – Win a certain amount games than losing a certain amount of games in a duration.

A good team always tries to set goals for how many games they want to win. But you can’t do it all in one stretch. You have to divide it up. I suggest we have a duration of 15 games each. That’s almost 11 versions of that said duration we’re talking about. We’re currently two games away from the end of our first duration.

So let’s set our goal a winning ten games before we lose five. We have a chance to do that this Friday against Texas. Regardless of the result, we’ll then try to move to our next goal, which is winning 20 games before we lose 10. Then, if needed, set our goal to 30 wins before 15 losses in the third rendition and so on.

There might be a monkey wrench thrown into the method because you’re not going to win ten out of every fifteen games all the time. But if that does happen, then try to say let’s win seven out of ten or so. What this does is keep you focused on the small things. It won’t always be a 100 percent but if the majority goes according to plan, then we got ourselves a contender for a title here.

#2 – Win a majority of series.

The biggest reason why the 2005 Houston Astros overcame a 15-30 deficit to reach the playoffs was that they won every series heading into the all-star break. They either took two out of three, three out of four, or swept an opponent to help get them back on track. This would later propel them to the Wild Card and of course, the World Series.

Now while the current Houston Astros are not exactly on the wrong side, I think this method would help out a lot. If we were to take the next seven series on the schedule starting Friday night and shoot for four or five series victories, I believe that will help us win the division. So let’s take a look at who’s next.
