Houston Rockets forward Luc Mbah a Moute dislocated his right shoulder in Tuesday’s matchup. This injury is sure to have a profound impact on the first round and potentially beyond.

The end of the season is always hard. You want your team to compete because that’s what sports are for. However, when the Houston Rockets faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers in a meaningless game the worst happened. Mbah a Moute skied towards the basket for a dunk and came down clutching his shoulder. He left the game in the second quarter and did not return.

Shoulder injuries are extremely precarious, especially for a basketball player. In case you didn’t know, basketball uses the shoulders quite a bit. Especially for a player like Mbah a Moute. He is one of the premiere 3-and-D players in the league. He can knock down triples, but more importantly he can defend any position on the court.

More from House of Houston

The Cameroonian prince has been integral to the Houston Rockets success this year. His positional versatility has been invaluable. He, among others, allows the Rockets to consistently have five great players without worrying about position.

Currently, Mbah a Moute is projected to miss at least the first round, but that may be a little generous. He missed 15 games for a mid-December dislocation in the same shoulder. This is the troublesome part, a repeat injury is never good. Especially in the same season and especially right before the playoffs.

Mark Berman of Fox26 News indicated that Mbah a Moute could miss up to four weeks. The silver lining of this injury is that playoff basketball is typically played at a slowed pace than the regular season. Mbah a Moute will definitely miss the first round, but he could easily miss more.

Fortunately, the Houston Rockets have positioned themselves well to survive without Mbah a Moute. They have several other players such as PJ Tucker and Trevor Ariza who can cover several positions. Absolutely, Mbah a Moute’s presence will be deeply missed. However, if any time can over come this, it’s the 2018 Rockets.

Here’s to a swift recovery. GO ROCKETS!
