Houston Astros: Top 10 Wealthiest Contracts in Franchise History
By T.A. Mock
6. Jeff Kent, 2B
Jeff Kent joined the Astros in 2003 after some phenomenal seasons with the Giants. Kent signed a two year deal worth $17.5 million. This translates out to be $12.2 million a year in today’s money.
Kent was a part of history with the Astros. He became the all time leader in home runs for a second baseman and he was a part of the first triple play for the Astros in 13 years. The former MVP also forced Astro legend Craig Biggio to the outfield.
Kent slashed .293/.350/.521 with 49 homers during his stint with the Astros.
5. Josh Reddick, OF
Josh Reddick joined the Astros prior to the 2017 season. He inked a four year $52 million deal. Some deemed this an overpay after an injury-riddled, down year split between the A’s and Dodgers.
However, Reddick is well worth his $13 million a year because he helped steer the Astros towards their first World Series championship. In his first year in Houston blew his career batting average out of the water and hit .314, a .050 point upgrade. He also managed 18 home runs and 82 RBIs.
Reddick will likely keep his role with the Astros for the duration of his contract.
