Position Player Predictions

Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve, George Springer, Josh Reddick, Brian McCann, Bregman, Gurriel, Gonzalez and Gattis all have jobs. These are all no-brainers.

Fisher will do enough in spring training to get the opening day nod at LF. The organization will give him every opportunity to win and keep that job. Marisnick will get plenty of looks after he has come out on fire after missing the 2017 postseason. Gattis will open up the year as the DH, Gonzalez will draw the first start at 1B. Reed will draw a couple starts before he is likely sent back to AAA.

Reed, White, Davis, and Kemp will be the first guys to get calls in case of an injury. However, there

are several guys that will be knocking on the door with the next couple years. Kyle Tucker is a premier prospect getting meaningful at bats in Spring Training. Yordan Alvarez is another up-and-comer with some incredible potential.

The Wealth of Talent

For the better part of the last two decades, the Houston Astros have had a depth problem.   And you know what?  It’s 2018 and they still have a depth problem. However, this year’s issue is the best problem an organization can have. Previously the club failed to put together guys that could compete daily, now the organization has guys in three levels that could compete in The Show.

The vast majority of the stars of the organization are all young and cost-controlled for years to come. Available roster spots in the coming years will be few and far in-between. The next spots available will likely be catcher, first base, and right field. The Houston Astros have many guys to potentially take those spots. There are also so many other players that are major league talents that may never get a shot in Houston.
