The Houston Astros are in full swing of Spring Training with today being the first happening where all of the team will report for duty.  Jeff Luhnow has reiterated that he’s complacent with the current roster as is when asked about it earlier today.  Take a look as to why.

The Houston Astros are back it again.  Just three months ago, they were lighting up their cigars, celebrating the franchise’s first World Series championship with the rest of the team’s faithful supporting their success to the fullest.

It truly was the best World Series that I’ve watched in my life because although it’s debatable, this Fall Classic was no doubt very special to me because we were able to get the job done.  It wasn’t easy but the Houston Astros were able to churn out enough grit to declare themselves as champions.

So let’s fast-forward to 2018 and now this team is looking at competing for a back-to-back title, something that’s still a sort of a rarity in professional sports.  Our own Houston Rockets completed that feat so why not the Houston Astros?  Again, it won’t be a cakewalk as other teams such as the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago Cubs have loaded up but I’d still put this team as the odds-on favorite to win if everything goes to plan.

And I’m not just saying that because they’re my home team, I truly believe the notion that I’ve just presented to you.

Jeff Luhnow talked with reporters this morning at the start of Spring Training workouts and here’s what he told Jake Kaplan of the Athletic:

This is usual Luhnow-speak to keep everyone guessing and on the top of their heels, wondering

what’s the next big move.  The Houston Astros had a fine off season with Gerrit Cole being the obviously the largest prize out the period.  But the pickups of relievers Joe Smith and Hector Rondon are expected to be a tremendous boosts to the club’s bullpen and Smith has made it no secret that he’s wanted to pitch for this club for quite some time.

With Collin McHugh‘s arbitration case being settled last week, this completes all of the players contracts that were being settled.  Of course, the news of George Springer‘s fat raise of his agreement to a two-year, $24 million pact certainly ensures that center field will be solidified for that amount of time for the reigning World Series MVP.

There will be a lot of things to watch through Spring Training as there might be some surprises of who will make the roster.  Keep your eye on Tyler White and Anthony Gose as well as we’ll be discussing these guys quite a bit moving forward.
