Houston Rockets – #1 in the West

The Rockets are riding a 10-game winning streak right now as we enter the All-Star break. That’s only part of the good news. The even better news is that for the first time in franchise history, our Houston Rockets have the best record in the NBA in the All-Star break. Yes, it’s a half-game lead over Golden State, but blame the Warriors for losing to the Blazers to allow the Rockets to be in the lead.

But even so, we do have those that feel that this is only going to be temporary.

Here’s quite a profound tweet from die-hard Houston Sports fan Francisco Rios:

You probably have seen this footage before where it appears that Michelle Beadle doesn’t give a damn about the Rockets. Who can blame her? She’s a Spurs fan that still remembers Manu Ginobli blocking James Harden in last season’s playoffs. She also was the one that basically said, if I remember correctly, that win the Spurs defeated the Rockets, that all was right with the world.

Wasn’t there a period when the Spurs were the most hated basketball team because their brand of basketball was “boring?” In an era where LeBron, Kobe, and Dwayne Wade dominated the league, did the Spurs get any love outside San Antonio? Should we remind Michelle that all-time in playoff series that Houston is 3-1 against the Spurs including 1995?

While Ms. Beadle has some good points even if we don’t agree with her and she has the right to root against Houston Sports, we cannot wait for the day when she watches on her TV to see the Rockets winning the championship. She probably could still care less because the Spurs have five while we will win our third title soon. But we know who the rivalry edge goes too?

What Happened to Golden State?

Ah yes! Golden State! The defending champions who have swagger. Yes, they’re still out there and if you have to be honest, they’re still the team to beat. Of course, we do have a 2-1 record against the Warriors right now and we’re in first place in the league. Are we the best team in the NBA? That’s up for debate because the Warriors might still be the favorites. The only way we get that respect and love is if we beat them in the playoffs.

That’s easier said than done. Even if we win, we’ll still have that question mark tag of how do we cover Houston without really covering Houston? Typical media these days looking for ratings instead of the truth.

But seriously though, the Warriors should be considered the favorites. I’ve always said that Houston plays better when picked against because the pressure goes on the team that is favored to win. Now by that, I’m talking about the national attention and not the odds. So if the Rockets and Warriors meet in the Western Conference Finals or so, we should expect the series to go seven games and expect the Warriors to be favored.

Still, it would be nice for the Rockets to win it all and hopefully beat the Philadelphia Eagles as Best Team at an ESPY awards show that we don’t really care about because we’re Houston, we rock, and we know it.

It’s called swagger and Houston Sports has that.
