Houston Rockets: A possible move the team will make post-deadline
When the entire NBA universe was waiting for the Houston Rockets to make a splash at Thursday’s deadline, they stayed silent. But there’s more brewing at 1510 Polk and what’s the next thing to happen? Take a look.
I thought I’d never say this but the Houston Rockets actually did nothing at the deadline for the first time since Daryl Morey has become the general manager. I as well as many other Houston Rockets fans were somewhat stunned that the team decided not to make a move.
We all heard the rumors that we were in the running for DeAndre Jordan and George Hill but the trades obviously didn’t end up becoming a reality.
In the long run, not making a move at the deadline could be a great thing.
This is a great basketball TEAM, these guys that we have now get along super well together. Really quiets down the haters that said Chris Paul and James Harden would not wort at all.
If they did trade for Jordan, that means Clint Capela would have most likely been thrown into the trade. I would not deal Capela by any means, he and the bearded one have a special chemistry. One can see it every night when Harden easily throws up alley-oops to him.
Plus there was not that high of a chance we would have been able to move Ryan Anderson with his bad contract. $41 million over two years for his production isn’t too “attractive” for trade

While the Rockets stayed quiet, the team that we might see if we make it to the finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers cleaned house at the deadline as they traded five players in less than 30 minutes.
With an unhappy LeBron, the Cavs needed to make a move in order to be a top-contender again and be mentioned with the elite teams like Golden State, Houston and Boston. Before the deadline, that Cavs team was a joke and we saw that when we played them in Cleveland a few weeks ago.
Don’t fret guys, there is still something called a buyout market and we are reportedly in on Joe Johnson:
Joe Johnson is an interesting name, if Houston signs him he will be reunited with Mike D’Antoni whom were apart of the Phoenix Suns at one point in time. He brings veteran leadership to the locker room and would be a decent backup.
The bad thing for the 36-year-old is when this team is 100 percent healthy, he may get little to no playing time. In the playoffs, depth is always a a plus so I would welcome him to Houston with open arms.
Johnson has been averaging 7.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists through 32 games with the Utah Jazz this season. He was part of the blockbuster deal yesterday with the Cleveland Cavaliers and has been shipped to the Sacramento Kings.
It’s quite possibly — and likely — that the remaining portion of his two-year, $21.5 million deal that expires this year will be bought out. Johnson is set to make $10.5 million this season, allowing the flush-with-cash Kings an opportunity to send him packing. They’re not trying to win now but continuing to rebuild for the future.
I’m sure that the Rockets will be ready to pounce as David Aldridge alluded to so we’ll have to monitor the situation.
Next: Why the Rockets should consider Brook Lopez
As of right now, the Rockets are absolutely red hot and are currently one game out of 1st place in the Western Conference and of having the best record in the NBA. The great news for the team is that in their last 10 games they’ve gone 9-1 and with Golden State notching a 6-4 record. They’re also a three-game losing streak while the Rockets are winners of their last six games.
