For the Houston Texans, the news couldn’t have been better in regard to one of H-Town’s greatest sons, J.J. Watt, earning the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.  Here’s some quick thoughts on his spectacular win.  Take a look.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Houston Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt wanted to help out his adopted hometown in any way he could. What started out as a small fundraiser turned into something so much bigger than anyone could imagine.

In just 19 days, Watt went from raising $200,000 to more than $37 million, making sure that every dollar earned went straight to the people who had lost everything. But it didn’t stop there. Watt also vowed to help deliver much needed supplies to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

While the city of Houston had already loved J.J. for his handsome physique and great play on the field, this effort showed the world his big, caring heart off of it.

The NFL honored that effort during Super Bowl weekend, naming Watt the Walter Payton Man of

the Year, given to the one player who shows excellence on and off the field.

Watt had a powerful excerpt during his acceptance speech to which I feel is something that’s heard of more in today’s society:

"And at the end of my life, if I’m remembered as a football player and a good football player and that’s all I’m remembered for, then I did a poor job in my life. When I go to my grave I want to be remembered as a guy who helped people out and who tried to do as much as he could off the field to be the best man he could be. I’m trying to make my family proud and my fans proud, and go out there and just be the best person I can be and leave the world a little bit better."

I’ll lead out with that.

Congratulations J.J. on your well deserved award! You have made not only Houston Texans fans proud, but the city of Houston proud as well!
