There will never be another year like 2017

It sounds weird saying this because people are wanting the Astros to repeat and do it again. Sure, we would like to be amongst the most elite of franchises and start a storied tradition. If you think about it, if Babe Ruth doesn’t get traded to the Yankees and instead goes to the Chicago White Sox, the Yankees don’t win 27 championships. If Babe Ruth stays with the Red Sox, Boston is the home to the best MLB, NFL, and NBA teams ever. That’s a scary feeling considering Boston is on the cusp of another Super Bowl win while the Celtics have 17 NBA Titles already.

There are storied franchises based on iconic moments, which have prevented more titles. If the Cubs don’t “steal” the 1908 NL Pennant, they don’t wait 108 years before another title or endure a curse of the Billy Goat. Should the Buffalo Bills make the field goal in Super Bowl 25 against the Giants, they win a second and maybe third Super Bowl title. If LeBron James doesn’t make the block, then the Golden State Warriors win three straight NBA titles. Take the finger of Hakeem Olajuwon away from John Starks and the Rockets don’t win the championship.

Houston Astros: Storied Franchise?

Imagine what it would be like to be a storied franchise. We would have notoriety and we would be

challenging the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs for the best pro team in the state of Texas. Our titles will be historic and there would already be room in the pantheon of elite sports teams just for us.

But then again, let’s be fair here. It doesn’t matter if we win more titles or not because at the end of the day, there will never be another year like 2017. No matter what we do from now on, nothing will ever be as memorable as 2017. That’s because we’ve have that elusive championship that we’ve been waiting for so long to have. It’s the same thing as the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980, the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955, or the Houston Rockets in 1994. For sure, it’s the same thing for the Chicago Cubs in 2016, the New York Rangers in 1994, or the Boston Red Sox in 2004. Yes, it’s the same thing as the New York Giants in 1986, the Chicago Bulls in 1991, and the Detroit Red Wings in 1997.

Some of these teams have had title droughts since their last championship while others have never won a championship until they finally got it. So to say we could be an elite sports franchise is asking for way too much right now. All we can do is sit back, relax, and enjoy the next few seasons and beyond. Because for once and for all, the Houston Astros are officially in the history books as champions.

What’s Next?

Well, if the Astros do repeat and win another title, we can only hope they clinch it at Minute Maid Park because we would love to see the celebration live on our field.
