The Houston Rockets have the been the most complete team as they have in quite a spell but there’s always room for improvement.  It’s apparent that we need another big to fill out this rotation with one roster spot left.  Andrew Bogut could be that guy and here’s why.

Yes, is said it Houston Rockets fans, I think Andrew Bogut would be a nice pick up after the deadline.  It’s possible that he may be picked up before but I seriously doubt it, especially in regard to the Houston Rockets motives.

As the strategy that Daryl Morey is likely employing, it’s best to wait to pick up any guys until the deadline, when the picture is clearer on how this roster will look and all options have been exhausted to make a pact to get the next best thing since sliced bread.

The debate goes on with Houston Sports Talk, my favorite podcast as they talk about different possibilities before the trade deadline:

Currently that has been DeAndre Jordan as there have been whispers that the team has been talking with the Los Angeles Clippers to bring the dynamic center back home to Bayou City.  But talks have reportedly stalled because, as expected, the Clips want Clint Capela.  At this point, the talented big man straight out of Switzerland has been off limits on any potential deal that has be made.

But quite honestly, if you’re making a deal for a guy like Jordan, Capela would have to be included so the franchise would be fooling themselves if they think they can make a deal without him included.  Although it’s possible a deal of this magnitude could happen I consider moderately unlikely that it will happen.

But the possibility of adding Bogut to the mix is real as he is currently a free agent, released from the Los Angeles Lakers to which it felt like eons ago.

But Marc Stein does indicate that he’ll be latching on a team after the deadline so the strong possibility exists that this could happen whether with the Houston Rockets or elsewhere:

He has also been the root of a few rumors linked specifically to the Rockets — mostly just hearsay on message boards — but he curtly went out of his way on Twitter to let a fan know that they were false.  This fan had made accusations that his selling point of wanting to be courted by the Rockets was that he had “insider” information on the Warriors.  He didn’t confirm or deny what this fan said though:

The former No. 1 pick of the 2005 draft has been a journeyman center looking for work wherever he can find it, having making stops in Dallas, Cleveland and Los Angeles after spending four seasons with the Golden State Warriors.  He netted one championship with the team in 2015.

More from House of Houston

But all in all, I think he’d be quite useful on the defensive front as he could always use a big to man the interior, grab some boards and block some shots.  He can help relieve not only Capela but to Nene Hilario and Tarik Black as well.  His familiarity with the Warriors’ system will allow him to work in seamlessly with Mike D’Antoni‘s.

But my only caveat is that we may see more illegal screens than we could ever imagine!  Kidding aside, as long as he’s not called for them, I’m all for it.  I just always tended to think that was his calling card.

This team has so much depth that there is no need for him to get a lot minutes but he’ll help plenty during resting spells during games as well as when we start limiting guy’s minutes on the home stretch before the playoffs.

Next: Why a rumored DeAndre Jordan swap froze in its tracks

I certainly will be up for such a move to land him but he’s not a have-to-have guy by any means.

Bogut, 33, averaged 1.5 points, 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 68 percent from the field through 24 games — five starts — in 9.0 minutes per game with the Lakers this season.

Go Rockets.
