Best Moment

Now here’s an award that we might have a chance in. The ESPY’s Best Moment Award is given to the team, individual, and moment that captured the hearts of everyone to be openly declared the best moment. We have a great chance to win this award. And the best part of this? It doesn’t require a fan vote. At least, not since 2015.

Last year, the Cubs won the award for best moment and rightfully so. They should’ve won the Best Team and Best Game awards. They had the best moment in July 2016-June 2017. It was better than LeBron leading Cleveland to the title. The Cubs were more popular than the Patriots winning the Super Bowl. So you think the Cubs were going to be shut out of the ESPY’s? If they could get an award like that, why not us? I mean, for a city like us with Harvey trying to ruin our morale, we did a great job of showing everyone how strong we are.

But Wait a Second!

Are we desperately trying to say that we had the best moment of the sports year? We still got February, March, April, May, and June to determine the award nominees and ceremony. There can be so many moments that could be better than what we achieved last season.

You’re right there folks. There is still time for everyone to process everything. We still got the Super Bowl, March Madness, the Stanley Cup, and the NBA Finals to enjoy before we worry about that.

ESPN is probably not going to give us the proper credit unless the fans have their say.  We can try to make us receive an award as much as we feel like it. But ultimately, ESPN, who sadly does not understand how the sports world feels about them now because of the loss of ratings and such, will continue to ignore us. They care so much about the ratings and not much about the human sports stories.

Where’s the Fair Play?

We live in a society where equality is a must have and a must need. How is it equality when football and basketball get the top billing when you also have baseball and hockey? Sure, it’s popular sports and all that. But, there are fans that would prefer the coverage of ice and diamonds

then gridiron and hardwoods.

Unless things change, which I can only hope will happen in the near future, the so-called popularity contest will prevent the nominees from having a chance at being considered. It’s hard to take away the fan vote because the fans should have a say. Everyone has an opinion and they are entitled to it. It may not always be the popular one, but that doesn’t respect shouldn’t be there for the other sides.

What Should We Do?

Nothing! We do absolutely nothing right now. We’re just going to continue with our lives and enjoy our successes as Houstonians. When the time rolls around in July for the voting to start, we’ll try and cast our votes for the Houston Astros and their championship run. Will it be enough to win an ESPY award? Either yes or no!

But should we really care? That’s a question I ask myself. Should Houston Astros fans care what others think about us? I mean, we already have talks about repeating as champions and we have the swagger that we never had for a long time. Sure, everyone else may take a jab at us, but just like the state of Texas itself, the naysayers’ efforts to derail us our nothing but (see the response here).

Next: Whom would play who in the Astros movie?

I know I’ve been sensitive to a lot of criticism the Houston Astros might be taking and the fear that World Series game will be forgotten in the world of sports. But truthfully, I got more troubles to worry about in my life than whether we’ll win at the ESPY’s in July.

At the end of the day, the record books will show that the Houston Astros are the 2017 World Series champions once and for all.

Phew! I feel better after getting that out.
