It’s official, the Houston Astros acquire RHP Gerrit Cole from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran, Micheal Feliz and Jason Martin.  Here’s some quick thoughts in regard to my reaction to this trade.

Houston Astros fans — someone call DPS, Jeff Luhnow just committed HIGHWAY ROBBERY!

What a deal, the team gets a young stud pitcher for (sadly) Joe Musgrove and a few guys that probably wouldn’t get a chance to play a lot here. Didn’t even have to give up the top guys like Forrest Whitley and Kyle Tucker either.

Yesterday entailed the festivities of Fan Fest, the Houston Astros ballyhooed fan-centric, interactive event at Minute Maid Park.  Coinedentally, Joe Musgove was one of the featured guys at the event. Sadly a few minutes later, he was traded to the Pirates. Who would have knew that Luhnow and Co. would be making deals while this event was occurring?

Here’s a tweet the Astros put up earlier before the trade, it resembles the calm before the storm:

Remember, this was a trade that “happened” earlier this week. It ended up being a false alarm and

up until that point, we had no idea where the Astros and Pirates stood when it came to Cole.

Officially this move puts the ball-club out of the race for Yu Darvish, Arrieta and Archer. We still have money left to spend and the team could possibly get a veteran big bat in Carlos Gonzalez to call it a day.

In his 2017 campaign, Cole went 12-12 with a 1.25 WHIP and had an ERA of 4.26. What’s alarming it’s higher than his career ERA of 3.50.

This 2018 Astros team has the chance to be historically great. You are going to look at this team in 30 years and say to yourself “Gah, I can’t believe that team had all those Hall of Famers at one time.”

Next: Whom would play who in the Houston Astros movie

The rotation is filthy. Justin Verlander, Dallas Keuchel, Cole, Lance McCullers Jr. and Charlie Morton. That right there is how you shutdown a “super-lineup” like the Yankees have with Giancarlo Stanton, Didi Gregorious, Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez.

House of Houston would like to wish Joe Musgrove, Colin Moran and Micheal Feliz good luck in their future!

Welcome to H-Town, Gerrit Cole!
