Houston Sports: Three New Year Predictions for 2018
Prediction #3 – Astros back to the World Series
Houston Sports fans — I’m saving the best of 2018 for last. This is by far the boldest prediction for me because I think this team has what it takes to repeat. It’s not going to be easy because we have a boulder target on our backs instead of small targets. But the good news is we still have our young core of Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa, and George Springer. We also have Justin Verlander back for a whole season. Life is really good for us now.
Of course, everyone will think the New York Yankees will be a dangerous threat because they have added Giancarlo Stanton to their club that already has Aaron Judge. The “rebuilding” tag the Bronx Bombers had last year is gone and everyone is ready for some long ball. Should we be afraid of the Yankees? No way! But they will be a tough challenge.
Why will the Astros repeat?
That’s why I think the Astros will win the AL West division by at least six games over the Angels.

Houston will finish with the second-best record in the American League behind the Yankees and will faceoff against the Cleveland Indians. In what was supposed to be a ALCS clash of the titans with us and the Indians, the Yankees ruined that and it turned out to be another clash. So this time, the Astros will meet the Indians.
It’ll be a grinder of a series, but Houston barely escapes in five. Then the Yankees, who will have beaten the Angels, the team that beat the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card game, will play the Astros in an ALCS rematch. Once again, the series goes to seven games. But once again, the Astros have the heart of a champion and will beat the Yankees and go back to the fall classic.
This time, their opponent will be the Chicago Cubs in a battle of the two previous World Series champions. It will be a classic six-game series and the Astros will get the job done by clinching at home. As much as 2017 was great by winning in LA, winning at home in 2018 will be better.

Conclusion
There’s a chance I can be 0-for-3, 1-for-3, 2-for-3, or perfect in my predictions. But hey, sometimes you have to take a risk just like Ben Reiter did. It might not work out and I’ll admit to being wrong if it doesn’t. But if it does, then I might as well go to Vegas to cash in.
But in all seriousness Houston Sports fans, let’s enjoy 2018 and hope we get more rings soon.
