Houston Rockets: Why the team is quite fond of these two prospects
The Houston Rockets continue to lift themselves up further past any level that hasn’t been seen in awhile, catapulting themselves to a 15-4 record but the team will not send two important prospects because of their success.
It’s usually understood that the Houston Rockets eventually will send down their prospects to make room for more of the seasoned veterans on the roster but in the latest news, the team will actually retain two guys for the time being. This is because of the team’s ability to blow out the competition by wide-margins and there’s not a need to play the starters for the entire game.
The Houston Rockets have won their contests by 15 points or more in nine of their 14 wins on the docket for this season.
Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle has a write-up in regard to this situation and it certainly makes sense why the Houston Rockets are doing this.
So enough about the situation. What players am I talking about? I’m talking about Briante Weber and Troy Williams. Typically, Mike D’Antoni is set in his ways keeping a close-knit rotation but what the fellas are doing now hasn’t been seen out of a Houston Rockets team in awhile. They’re actually flirting with the best record in the NBA, teeter-tottering with the Boston Celtics for that feat.
With that being said, the best interest in keeping the starters as rested and as healthy as possible. It’s long season and we don’t want them to be gassed out like they were against the San Antonio Spurs back in semis in last season’s playoff run.
Hell, James Harden is averaging 35.9 minutes a game, which is certainly a career-low dating back to days as a backup with the Oklahoma City Thunder before that eventful day in the late summer of 2012 when he was traded to the Houston Rockets.
All these signs are great not only for Harden but for veterans as Chris Paul as well. Paul has had his fair share of injuries in his career and this will only ensure that the knicks and bruises are as minimized as possible.

Weber, a guy with a elongated reputation for playing outstanding defense, will be in the fold for a bit longer than expected. He signed a two-way G-League contract with the team shortly at the beginning of the season where his pay will differ depending on if he’s on the pro roster or with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
The Rockets will have to make decision with him eventually because players on two-way contracts can only remain on the pro roster for a maximum of 45 days per CBA regulations.
Troy Williams, the sharpshooter that the Rockets poached out of the G-League last season, inked a three-year, $4.69 million deal before season’s start with $1.5 million for this season guaranteed. His remaining two years on the contract are a team option.

As you remember, Williams scored 21 points off six threes in a early April 123-116 win over the Phoenix Suns last season and it’s because of games like those factor in the reason why he’s here. He’s instant offense and deserves a roster spot.
Nonetheless, I’m glad these guys are with the team it will be intriguing to watch their development as time passes by.
Go Rockets.
